Wedding Officiant in Evansville, Indiana

A ceremony should sound like the two of you. I write every wedding from scratch after getting to know you, then lead it with warmth, humor where it fits, and a steady voice when the moment gets big.

What to expect

A ceremony built around your story

We start with a conversation: how you met, what you admire in each other, what you want your guests to feel, and what you absolutely do not want. No one has to say "obey" or sit through a lecture. From there I write a ceremony that reflects your voice, your beliefs and your sense of humor.

You will see the full draft well before the wedding. Change anything you like. On the day, I arrive early, check in with your planner, photographer and venue, help nervous family find their places, and make sure the only thing you have to think about is each other.

Faith-based, interfaith, spiritual or fully secular, every kind of ceremony is welcome. Readings, unity rituals, handfasting, cultural traditions, a moment of remembrance for people who could not be there, or none of the above. Your call.

Ceremony options

From a backyard to a ballroom

  • Custom wedding ceremonies

The full experience: a planning meeting, a ceremony written from your story, vow guidance, rehearsal support and the ceremony itself. From the Ohio riverfront and downtown Evansville to barns in Warrick County and backyards in Newburgh.

  • Elopements & small weddings

Just the two of you, or you and a handful of favorite people. A short, meaningful ceremony at a park, a brewery, your living room or a spot by the river. A warm alternative to the courthouse, often on short notice.

  • Vow renewals & anniversaries

Celebrate five years or fifty, recommit after a hard season, or finally have the ceremony you did not get the first time. A beautiful choice for couples who married privately or before marriage equality.

  • Interfaith & blended ceremonies

Two faiths, one faith and none, or families with very different traditions. I write ceremonies that honor everyone in the room without asking anyone to pretend.

  • Signing-only ceremonies

Need it legal today and plan to celebrate later? A brief, respectful signing makes it official, and I would be glad to lead the big one when the time comes.

  • LGBTQ+ weddings

Affirming ceremonies for same-sex, trans, nonbinary and queer couples, with language written around your relationship rather than a gendered template. Learn more.

The legal part

Getting a marriage license in Evansville

Indiana keeps it simple. Both of you apply together at any Indiana county clerk's office. In Evansville that is the Vanderburgh County Clerk in the Civic Center Complex downtown. You can start the application online through the Indiana courts' marriage license portal, then finish in person.

  • Bring valid government-issued photo ID and know your Social Security numbers
  • No waiting period: you can marry the same day the license is issued
  • The license is valid for 60 days anywhere in Indiana
  • Fees are typically about $25 for Indiana residents and $65 for out-of-state couples; confirm with the clerk
  • I sign the license after the ceremony and return it to the clerk for you

Marrying in Kentucky? I also officiate in Henderson, Owensboro and Western Kentucky. The license must come from the state where the ceremony happens, so Kentucky weddings need a Kentucky license. I will walk you through it.

Vow renewals

It is never too late for the ceremony you deserved

For couples who married at a courthouse, in another state, or long before the law caught up: a vow renewal is a real celebration, with everyone you love in the room this time.
